Why English words appear in brackets on translated pages

This page is available in multiple languages. On translated pages, some English words appear in brackets after the translated text. They help match sections with this English page. If you are helping someone on a translated page, use the English word in brackets to find the same section here.

What rental problems can RDRV help with?

    1. Bond – when there’s a disagreement about the bond refund.
    2. Compensation – when someone wants money from the other person.
    3. Excessive rent increases – when rent is too high.
    4. Repairs – when something needs to be fixed.

    Who can use RDRV

You can use RDRV if you rent a home to live in, or if you own a home and rent it out to someone.

    This includes:

    • People who own a home and rent it out
    • People who own or run a rooming house or caravan park
    • People who run public or social housing
    • People who rent a house, apartment, rooming house, or caravan
    • People who rent land, but own the home
    • People who live in specialist disability accommodation.

    How RDRV helps you

    • We help renters (tenants) and rental providers (landlords) fix problems.
    • When a problem is fixed, it means the renter and rental provider have agreed to resolve it.
    • RDRV helps you agree, so you do not have to go to a VCAT hearing.
    • If you can’t agree, we can help you get a decision at a hearing.

How to ask for help at RDRV

    • You can call us on the number at the top of this page.

    • Your name
    • The address of your rental property
    • If you are the renter or the rental provider
    • Who is on the rental agreement

    About RDRV resolution coordinators

When you create an application at myRDRV, and it is a problem RDRV can help with, we will give you one person who will help you.

This person is called a resolution coordinator.

They will stay with your case until the problem is fixed.

    They will:

    • Talk to you.
    • Talk to the other people involved.
    • Try to help fix your problem.

After you apply for help at myRDRV your resolution coordinator will contact you within a week.

Your resolution coordinator will help you and the other person find a way for you to agree.

If they cannot help you and the other person to agree, your resolution coordinator can help you get a decision at a hearing.

You will have the same resolution coordinator until your problem is fixed, or your case is decided at a hearing.

If your problem is not one of the 4 types RDRV can help you with, you may need to ask VCAT for a hearing.

Before you go to VCAT, try to talk to your rental provider or renter to fix the problem yourself.

Consumer Affairs and Tenants Victoria offer help in different languages.
